| Frequently Asked Questions If you're eating out all the time, why aren't you a fat slob and weigh 300 pounds? I've been blessed with a highly active metabolism and have managed to keep the weight off. In fact, I think I've lost weight over the past several years even though I do eat a lot. Is there anything you won't eat? If it's on the menu, I'll try anything. I often order items off the menu that I haven't tried before or haven't had in awhile to vary my tastes. What is your favorite city for restaurants? Right now, it'd have to be San Francisco. The food out there is fabulous and the restaurant scene is incredible. What is your favorite cuisine? Anything that's innovative and fresh. Something that hasn't been sampled by Lu-gats is something that needs to be sampled by Lu-gats. I do tend to favor New American, Eclectic and Pan-Asian places because of the variety. Who do you eat most of your meals with? Most of my business meals are with my project teams and co-workers. Most of my other meals are with friends. I've had the opportunity to travel quite a bit and have been in touch with many friends who have accompanied me on many Lu-gats dining experiences. Will you go to the same restaurant more than once? Yes, if someone else is picking the restaurant to dine at. But if I had to pick a restaurant, I'd prefer to try something new to add to Lu-gats. How do you afford to eat out all the time? One of the several perks of working for American Management Systems are the travel benefits. When we travel for AMS, they treat us very well and it is truly a great place to work. Approximately 50% of the restaurants in Lu-gats have been on an expense account. How do you choose the restaurants you eat at? Usually by word of mouth or through travel guides. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. If 70 is the dividing line between acceptable and not acceptable, why are the overall averages that much higher? I generally enjoy food and it takes a bad experience for me to not like a place. The places I go to are also generally recommended by friends or have been written about. I also enjoy eating out at finer places which can skew the averages a bit. Can you keep up this Lu-gats pace forever? For now, it's been fun racking up the number of restaurants but I imagine that eventually my pace will slow down. Do you ever hear back from any restaurants regarding your Lu-gats ratings? Yes, occasionally General Managers and the servers I've had have written to me about the Review. It's great to get feedback! Gosh, this list is huge. How much time do you spend on Lu-gats? It's been a gradual process and it's pretty easy now. Once the infrastructure has been laid out from a few years ago, I spend a few minutes after each meal updating the ratings in my Palm which then gets imported quarterly into the database. |
