Lu-gats was originally started in May 1995 as a hobby in collecting business cards of restaurants I eat at. I had been traveling quite a bit for work at American Management Systems and was eating out quite frequently (ie. ALL the time). After a few months of collecting a sizable stack of business cards, some of my co-workers suggested that it might be useful to start rating the restaurants. This way, others can benefit from the collected experiences that I've had and refer to the ratings as a resource in making restaurant selections. Since I love food and will eat anything that is offered on the menu, I have a well-rounded palate to make unbiased judgments on the quality and taste. Hence the name Lu-gats was born, named after Zagat, the publication that started in a similar manner.
